TRIBE SWEEPS CAA CROSS COUNTRY CHAMPIONSHIPS
WILMINGTON, N.C. Heavy favorite William & Mary lived up to that role Saturday as the Tribe swept both the men's and women's titles at the 2005 Colonial Athletic Association Cross Country Championships at UNC Wilmington's recreational fields.
The Tribe won its sixth straight men's crown, and 13th overall, scoring 26 points for an easy victory over second-place James Madison at 46 points. W&M sophomore Ian Fitzgerald cruised the 8K course in a time of 24:31.53, besting second-place finisher junior C.W. Moran (24:35.87) of James Madison by more than four seconds. Defending champ senior Matt Keally of W&M finished fifth (25:04.29).
On the women's side, W&M won its third consecutive crown, also the 13th overall, with 35 points. JMU came in second with 46 points. JMU senior Shannon Saunders successfully defended her crown, covering the 6K course in 21:04.05. Hofstra freshman Mary Sullivan placed second with a time of 21:11.82.
