FORMER SEAHAWK FINISHES SECOND IN BRITISH AMATEUR
WILMINGTON, N.C. – Former UNC Wilmington standout Adam Gee's golf game is alive and well, especially after a second place finish in the prestigious British Amateur last weekend in Kent, England.
Gee, who played for the Seahawks from 2000-03, lost to champion Julien Guerrier of France, 4 and 3, in the 111th British Amateur at Royal St. George's. Guerrier earned a berth in the British Open and next year's Master's with the victory.
Gee tied for 24th out of 288 players in the stroke play qualifying with a 73-75=148 card. The native of Surrey, England, then won five matches to advance to the championship match.
In the second round of Match Play, Gee defeated Lorenzo Gagli, 5 and 4, before knocking off Stuart Moore, 7 and 6, in the Third Round. In the Fourth Round, he topped Yuki Ito, 3 and 2 and won his quarterfinal match, 1 up, over Scott Jamieson before reaching the championship match with a 5 and 4 victory over Jamie Moul.
Gee appeared in 46 tournaments during his career at UNCW and ranks second all-time with a 73.88 stroke average. He was a three-time All-Conference selection in the Colonial Athletic Association, earning First-Team honors in 2001-02, and won two individual titles in his career.
During Gee's career at UNCW, the Seahawks won 10 tournament championships, tying for the CAA title in 2003.
