UNCW Department of Athletics Civic Engagement Policy
The student-athletes, coaches, and staff of UNCW Department of Athletics are committed to being active members within the community. Civic and community engagement is a key part of the UNCW Athletic Department's mission statement, and core values. UNCW student-athletes, coaches and staff have unique opportunities to participate in civic and community outreach projects. Student-athletes are required per NCAA bylaws to engage in civic engagement and must be given a day off from countable athletically related activities to participate in this type of activities and programming. This must take place within 15 days before or after the first Tuesday after the first Monday in November. Activities that are chosen can take place on campus, in the Wilmington community or through another method. Although mandated by the NCAA, it is our hope that this will allow student-athlete's natural leadership skills to impact society in many positive ways.
