UNCW Opens Season Hosting Hampton Inn and Suites Seahawk Classic

Volleyhawks take the court at noon on Friday

WILMINGTON, N.C. – UNCW's second season under Head Coach Lo Hoyer opens on Friday with a pair of matches at the Hampton Inn and Suites Seahawk Classic.

Joining the Seahawks this weekend in Hanover Hall are Le Moyne, The Citadel and Kennesaw State. UNCW takes on Le Moyne at noon and closes out the day with a 6:30 p.m. first serve against KSU.

The Seahawks welcome 11 new players to the program as Hoyer used both the portal and prep ranks.

Returning for the Seahawks are Morgan Esmie, Maris Grant, Lilly Sullivan and Meredith Keefer.

Sullivan started 23-of-26 matches last season as a freshman and posted a .233 hitting average. Joining Sullivan up front is Keefer, who averaged 1.29 kills per set.

Joining the Seahawks at setter is Gaby Zovko, who brings three seasons of experience with her to the program. In her first two seasons at Sacred Heart, she was the starting setter for the Pioneers and handed out 1,622 assists in 58 matches.

At the net, Courtney Graham transferred into the program following a strong season as a sophomore at Western Carolina. Graham started 28-of-29 matches for the Catamounts and finished third in the Southern Conference with 1.15 blocks per set.

UNCW heads to nationally-ranked North Carolina on Sunday for a 4 p.m. match which will be streamed on ACCNX.
