Softball Hosts Campbell for Key CAA Series

WILMINGTON, North Carolina – A pivotal Coastal Athletic Association softball series awaits UNCW, who enters the final regular season weekend one game behind first-place Campbell in the CAA South Division. The two longtime rivals will meet this weekend at UNCW's Boseman Field for a three-game set to determine the division champion.

UPDATE (4/30): Gametimes are Thursday at 6 p.m. and the two teams will now conclude the series with a Friday doubleheader at 2:30 p.m.

The Seahawks will honor three seniors – Carson Fleming, Grace Hennessy and Nico-Marie Ortiz – throughout the weekend. Admission to Boseman Field is free with concessions and merchandise available.

All games will be streamed on FloCollege with live stats available by visiting UNCW's StatBroadcast site here. For the first time in program history, Thursday's game will also broadcast across the radio airwaves of ESPN Wilmington (101.7 FM and AM630)

In a matchup of the top two pitching staffs in the circuit, both squads feature standout freshman pitchers in UNCW's Camille Hamilton, the CAA ERA leader (1.67) and one of the 25 finalists for National Freshman of the Year, and Campbell's Katelyn Hubley, who ranks second in the league in both wins (17) and ERA (2.21).

Hamilton anchors a Seahawks staff that is among the most dominant in the country. UNCW's pitching staff ranks among the national leaders in several categories, including ERA (22nd – 2.81), WHIP (18th – 1.24), shutouts (9th – 14), hits allowed per seven innings (21st – 6.23) and strikeout-to-walk ratio (26th – 2.21), all at the top of the CAA.The Seahawks also established a program record with 14 shutouts.

At the plate, the two programs are the lone CAA teams to post a team batting average about .300, with the Seahawks' .313 clip trailing Campbell's leading .334 mark. The series features three of the five CAA players hitting above. 400, led by junior Cassidy Relay's .467 batting average.

The winner of the CAA South Division will earn a top-two seed and a coveted bye in the 2026 Coastal Athletic Association Softball Championship at Elon's Hunt Softball Park from May 6-9.

2026 CAA DIVISION SCHEDULING FORMAT
CAA athletic directors have approved a new divisional scheduling format and a change to the way teams are determined for the conference championship in four different sports, including softball, for the 2025-26 season.

Softball
The conference will be separated into two divisions – North: (Drexel, Hofstra, Monmouth, Stony Brook and Towson) and South: (Campbell, Charleston, Elon, Hampton, North Carolina A&T and UNCW).

During the regular season, teams will play eight conference series (24 games). In the North, teams will play two divisional opponents once and the other two divisional opponents twice (home and away). There will also be two series (one home, one away) against teams from the South Division. In the South, two teams will play three divisional opponents once and the other two divisional opponents twice (home and away) as well as one series against a team from the North Division. Three teams will play four divisional opponents once and the other divisional opponent twice (home and away) as well as two series (one home, one away) against teams from the North Division.

The top two teams from each division based on conference winning percentage in all games will qualify for the six-team CAA Championship. The other two tournament participants will be the teams that have the highest conference winning percentage in all conference games played, but did not finish first or second in their division.
