Poag Closes Outdoor Track & Field Season at NCAA East First Round

LEXINGTON, Ky. – UNCW graduate student Ivan Poag concluded his 2026 outdoor track and field season Thursday at the NCAA East First Round in the triple jump.

"Ivan came in mentally and physically prepared to compete.  He improved on his regional ranking coming in, and that's everything we can ask for coming into this meet", said Head Coach Jeff Klaves. "This is one of the hardest meets of the year to advance, so our team expectation is to control what we do and let our best stack up against the rest of the field.

Ivan Poag is leaving a legacy. A two time CAA Field Event Most outstanding performer that's biggest accomplishment is the type of teammate he has always been.  He brought a joyful presence that made others around him want to work with him and cheer for him."

Poag finished 36th overall in the event with a mark of 48 feet, 10 1/4 inches. The jump capped a standout collegiate career that saw him finish ranked seventh in program history in the event.

During the 2026 season, Poag captured the Coastal Athletic Association title in the triple jump and earned a runner-up finish in the long jump at the CAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships. He was also named the CAA Most Outstanding Field Performer for the second consecutive season.

Over his collegiate career, Poag recorded 11 top-10 finishes at the CAA Championships, qualified twice for the NCAA East First Round and reset the program's triple jump record on two occasions. He concludes his career ranked second in program history in the triple jump and eighth all-time in both the long jump and high jump.
