UNCW Names Taylor Head Men's Golf Coach

WILMINGTON, North Carolina – UNCW Director of Athletics Michael Oblinger has announced the hiring of Wilmington native Blake Taylor as Head Coach of the UNCW men's golf program, following his successful tenure as Interim Head Coach.

Taylor was named interim head coach in August of 2025 and has led the program throughout the Fall 2025 season. He begins his permanent role effective immediately.

"Blake has done an outstanding job guiding our men's golf program during a period of transition," said Oblinger. "He has built strong relationships with our student-athletes and staff through his professionalism and passion for this program. Blake brings a sincere commitment to developing young men both on and off the course, and we are excited for the future of Seahawk golf under his leadership."

A former collegiate standout at East Carolina, Taylor joined the Seahawks' coaching staff in January 2023 after several years working in competitive golf instruction and player development. During his time with the program, Taylor has played a key role in recruiting, player performance planning, tournament preparation, and the overall growth of the student-athlete experience.

"I couldn't be more excited and grateful to be the next head coach of the UNCW men's golf program. Wilmington has been home for my family our entire lives, so it is such an honor to be able to coach in our hometown and help build on the culture and success UNCW golf is known for," said Taylor. "I cannot thank Mike, Stacy, Kiersten, and all of Seahawk Nation enough for trusting me to lead the program to new heights. Go Seahawks!"

Taylor enjoyed a distinguished playing career with the Pirates from 2016-20, where he ranked second in program history in career stroke average and posted one of the lowest single-season scoring averages in school history. Following his college career, Taylor competed on several mini-tours and at the 2018 A Military Tribute at the Greenbrier, a PGA Tour event.

As a prep player at Wilmington Christian Academy, he helped the Patriots to four North Carolina Christian School Association (NCCSA) Boys' Golf team championships. Taylor earned medalist honors at the 2015 NCCSA Championship, while finishing as runner-up in 2014 and 2016.

The Wilmington Star News selected Taylor as the 2015 Boys' Golf Player of the Year.  He was also named to the 2015 North Carolina All-State Golf First Team by the Tar Heel Youth Golf Association and the Carolinas Golf Association.

Taylor, who holds a degree from ECU in Recreation and Park Management, resides in Wilmington with his wife Courtney, a UNCW alum and former beach volleyball player, and daughter Kaylee.
