Olsen Steps Down From Women's Tennis Post

WILMINGTON, N.C. — UNC Wilmington, Director of Athletics Michael Oblinger announced today that Hans Olsen has resigned as head coach of the UNCW women's tennis program to pursue personal opportunities, effective January 31.

"We are grateful to Hans for his leadership and dedication to UNCW during his time with the program," said Oblinger. "He has been a strong advocate for our student-athletes and represented Seahawk Athletics with integrity and professionalism. We appreciate his contributions and wish him the very best moving forward."

Olsen led the Seahawks with a focus on competitive excellence and the holistic development of student-athletes, emphasizing both academic and athletic success during his tenure.

Olson guided the Seahawks to Coastal Athletic Association championship appearances in 2017 and 2023.

"I am thankful for the opportunity to coach at UNCW for the last 10 years," said Olson. "Each player that has been a part of our team has also been a part of my family. I am both sad to be leaving and excited about the next chapter in our lives. Seahawk Women's Tennis will continue to grow and accomplish great things in the future. Go Hawks!"

To provide continuity for the program, Associate Head Coach John Ware will assume the interim leadership role for the women's tennis program through the 2026 season. Ware has been a key member of the coaching staff and brings valuable experience and familiarity with the program and its student-athletes.
