CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – UNCW men's track and field junior Cameron Wright set a new school record with a time of 10.34 seconds in the 100-meter dash prelims and finished fifth in the finals at the Virginia Challenge on Friday to highlight a successful weekend for the Seahawks.
On Friday afternoon, Wright broke Cameron Shaw's near 10-year program record of 10.35 in the 100Â by one-hundredth of a second and set the fastest time in the Coastal Athletic Association this season by the same margin. Wright's performance also ranks inside the top 45 for the NCAA East Region. He followed his record-breaking performance with a time of 10.46 in the finals on Friday night.Â
Wright continued his stellar weekend on Saturday afternoon, setting a new personal record of 14.10 in the 110-meter hurdles to finish fifth. Wright jumped from sixth to fourth all-time in program history, surpassing his previous time of 14.16.Â
On Saturday afternoon, Brylee Montanari ran 13.89 in the 100Â hurdles, recording the third-best time in program history to finish 16th. Originally sixth on the all-time list, Montanari shattered her all-time best of 14.14 to surpass Krista Mangum's time of 13.95 from 2011. Montanari, a junior, also tied for the fifth-best outdoor time in the conference.
Carly Gordinier continued her successful rookie campaign in the pole vault. Gordinier kicked off the meet for the Seahawks, finishing second with a mark of 3.85 meters (12-7 1/2), breaking Ashley Wildhaber's 22-year freshman record of 3.81 meters (12-6). Gordinier also passed Wildhaber for fourth on the program's all-time outdoor list and posted the fourth-best time in the CAA this season.Â
Bryson Robinson had a strong showing in the 100, running 10.65 in the prelims on Friday afternoon. Robinson finished 31st and tied John-Tyler Evans (2008) for the ninth-fastest time in program history.Â
Ella Jane Osada, a freshman, set the ninth-fastest time in program history for the 400-meter dash on Saturday afternoon, running her all-time best of 56.68.
Ivan Poag placed third in high jump, matching his all-time best performance with a leap of 2.01 meters (6-7).Â
Chad Hillman continued his streak of solid performances in the 400 hurdles. The junior finished seventh out of 31 competitors with a time of 54.01.
Starting next Thursday, The Seahawks will compete at the prestigious Penn Relays in Philadelphia.Â
