DURHAM, N.C. – Four top 10 finishes paced UNCW track and field at the three-day Duke Invitational, highlighted by Lucas Smith's time of 47.50 seconds in the men's 400-meter dash, the 10th-fastest time in program history.
"Great competitive weekend across the board for us," said head coach Jeff Klaves. "We continue to execute the things that we're trying to get done in practice. The ones that are doing it more frequently are seeing the results come out in competition."
On Saturday, Smith finished ninth in the field of 85+ in the 400, the best performance by a freshman.
Miles Higgins and Jordyn Robbins, the defending 2024 CAA Javelin Throw Champion, had strong showings for the Seahawks on Saturday.
Higgins finished fifth, throwing 63.65 meters (208-10), a few meters shy of his all-time best throw. Robbins recorded her best throw of the season, tossing 45.59 meters (149-7) to finish seventh.
Donovan Lara captured third in the high jump with a leap of 2.01 meters (6-7) on Friday.
Cameron Wright tallied his career-best (21.68) in the 200 on Saturday, finishing 20th and falling just short of reaching the program's top 10 list.
