RALEIGH, N.C. – Senior sprinter Nasiah Ferguson set a new program record in the outdoor 400-meter dash for UNCW women's track and field, running 55.17 seconds at Paul Derr Track and Field Facility on Friday at the Raleigh Relays.
Ferguson finished 15th out of 113 runners and captured her third program record, surpassing teammate Mackenzie Townsend's 55.35 at the East Coast Relays from a season ago. Ferguson now holds the program record in the 400m for indoor and outdoor track, plus the indoor 300-meter dash.Â
"Nasiah is stringing together some great competitive efforts," head coach Jeff Klaves said. "One team mantra is consistency breeds PRs. It is still the beginning for her in the 400m. She is achieving some process goals en route to learning her race and the spots she wants to keep improving."
On Saturday, the women's 4x400-meter relay of Janiyah Fields, Ferguson, Avery Rueckert and Ella Jane Osada posted the second-fastest time in program history, running 3 minutes, 45.31 seconds to end the meet for the Seahawks.
Jordyn Robbins, the 2024 CAA Javelin Throw Champion, and Miles Higgins, the 2024 runner-up, each recorded top-10 finishes. Robbins placed ninth with a throw of 45.31 meters (148-8). Higgins took 10th, throwing 58.98 meters (193-6).Â
In the men's 110 hurdles, J.T. Allen and Cameron Wright finished eighth and ninth, respectively, for the Seahawks. Chad Hillman finished 16th in the 400Â hurdles with a personal best of 53.16, the ninth-fastest outdoor time in program history.
Donovan Lara finished eighth in high jump with a leap of 2.05 meters (6-8 3/4). Ivan Poag took eighth in triple jump with a leap of 14.46 meters (47-5 1/4).
On Friday, Carly Gordinier competed in the pole vault at the adidas Trojan Challenge at the University of Mount Olive, winning with a vault of 3.74 meters (12-3 1/2), the sixth-best outdoor pole vault in program history.
"The things that are happening in meets continue to happen in practice first. The school records, personal records, and season bests are a result of all that they continue to do on the daily.  This meet shows we are on the right track, now it is up to us to keep working. The hard work has just begun. For us to keep going after more, we need to be smarter with our time, more intentional with our rest, and continue to be ready for moments like this."Â
