Men's Golf Claims Seahawk Intercollegiate Championship

WILMINGTON, North Carolina – Led by top-four finishes from James Rico and Gray Mitchum, the UNCW men's golf team claimed its sixth Seahawk Intercollegiate title on Tuesday afternoon at the Cape Fear Country Club.

The Seahawks earned their first Seahawk Intercollegiate crown since 2022, 16 strokes ahead of runner-up James Madison. UNCW posted a 284-278-274=837 scorecard over the two-day, 54-hole event.

Florida Atlantic's Nashawn Tyson earned individual medalist honors over the Dukes' Vaclav Tichy. Rico (69-68-70=207) and Mitchum (69-68-70=207) followed in third and fourth, respectively. 

The host Seahawks was second in the 13-team field with 54 birdies while UNCW players authored Eagles: Mitchum twice on Hole No. 15 in the first and third rounds and Mauricio Tello, who played as an individual, on the same hole in the second round.

One final regular season tune-up before the CAA Championship is on the docket at the Stitch Intercollegiate hosted by NC State from Apr. 11-12 in Raleigh.
