MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. – Nasiah Ferguson and Cameron Wright rewrote the program's top 10 list in their respective events as UNCW track and field wrapped up competition at the three-day Alan Connie Shamrock Invitational on Saturday afternoon.
"The was a great weekend was a competition for our team," head coach Jeff Klaves said. "We are leaving knowing that we are closer to where we want to be. We are using these early season benchmarks to see what's working. I'm really happy with the effort and obviously the team commitment to their individual plans to get the job done."
Ferguson, a senior, recorded a sixth-place finish in the 200-meter dash, running a collegiate best 24.48 seconds. She tallied the fifth-fastest outdoor time in program history with the performance.
Wright, a junior, won his prelim and the final in the 110-meter hurdles, running 14.16 in the main event. He improved his sixth-fastest time in program history by .06 seconds.
The men's and women's programs earned the Sportsmanship Award for the event for their positive interactions with officials, competitors, and the media.
"We are honored and privileged to be bring home the team's sportsmanship award for both programs. It's a testament to how the team handles itself. Our athletes were doing a great job encouraging each other and helping uplift others when they needed it."
Freshman Ava Rebuck finished sixth in the 100 hurdles with a personal record, running 14.97 to improve on the 15.00 time she set in her qualifying race.
