Thach Named To Golden Spikes Award Watch List

WILMINGTON, N.C. – UNCW junior slugger Tanner Thach has been named to the USA Baseball Golden Spikes Award Preseason Watch List presented by Chinook Seedery.

The preseason list includes 55 players across high school and college baseball. The Golden Spikes Advisory Board will maintain the award's watch list on a rolling basis, allowing athletes to play themselves into consideration for the award based on in-season performance.

For Thach, this is the latest preseason recognition which includes Coastal Athletic Association Player of the Year and All-America honors from Perfect Game, D1Baseball and Baseball America.

As a sophomore in 2024, Thach belted a school and conference record 27 home runs while knocking in a career-best 75 runs. During the summer, Thach belted eight more home runs, tying for third in the Cape Cod League.

In two seasons with UNCW, Thach is the program's all-time home run leader with 42.

Nick Feight and Brian Mims were UNCW's last players to be considered for the Golden Spikes Award in 2017. Both were All-Americas the previous season and Feight reached the semifinals of the Golden Spikes Award voting. Prior to Feight, Michael Bass also reached the semifinal round in 2013.

The Seahawks open the 2025 season on Feb. 14-16 against Quinnipiac and national-ranked Georgia. Tickets for the games are on sale at UNCWSports.com/buytickets
