Six Programs Earn National Distinction In APR Report

WILMINGTON, N.C. – The UNCW Athletics Department had six programs rank among the nation's best in the annual Academic Progress Rate, released by the NCAA earlier this week.

UNCW's baseball, Men's Cross Country, Women's Cross Country, Men's Soccer, Softball, and Volleyball were honored with Public Recognition Awards, which go to teams earning multiyear Academic Progress Rates in the top 10 percent of all squads in their respective sport.

"Our coaches, program administrators and support staffs do a tremendous job aiding our student-athletes in the academic progress and this report shows that," said UNCW Director of Athletics Michael Oblinger. "In the fast-moving and changing landscape of collegiate athletics, everyone has been able to make the adjustments needed to support our student-athletes."

The Men's and Women's Cross Country programs along with Softball and the Beach and Indoor Volleyball programs earned perfect scores of 1,000.

In addition to those posting perfect scores, programs posting scores of 990 or higher include Baseball (995), Men's Soccer (997), Men's Swimming and Diving (990), Women's Swimming and Diving (990), Men's Track and Field (995) and Women's Soccer (995).

The Coastal Athletic Association was tied for sixth among the nation's 32 Division I conferences in the latest overall Academic Progress Rate for the 2022-23 academic year, which was released by the NCAA on Tuesday. CAA schools achieved a combined APR of 989, which was well above the national average of 984. The APR included data from the 2019-20 academic year through the 2022-23 academic year.
