UNCW Sweeps CAA Championships for Second Straight Year

HAMPTON, Va. – UNCW's swimming and diving programs were crowned champions of the Coastal Athletic Association for the second straight year as the Seahawks swept both championship meets on Saturday at the Hampton Aqua Plex.

The sweep marks the third time in program history that both programs won their championship in the same season. The first time was 2006.
For UNCW, the championships raised its all-time totals to 16 on the men's side and five for the women's program.

Brooke Knisely won the 1650 freestyle with a time of 16:30.29, which was an NCAA B cut. Emerson Dalton, a freshman won the bronze with a time of 16:42.95. For Knisely, it was her third consecutive title in the event.

On the men's side, UNCW went 1-2 as Silas Crosby and freshman Logan Adley swam times of 15:23.43 and 15:30.82, respectively.

Cameron Snowden (49.75) and Emily Waite (50.13) earned silver and bronze, respectively, in the 100 freestyle.

UNCW landed four swimmers in the finals of the 200 breaststroke and Gil Shaw led the way with a third-place finish. Gabby Perotti was fourth, Lauren Sharp fifth and Kennedy Grotjohn placed seventh.

William Carrico earned a silver medal in the 200 breaststroke with a time of 1:56.28. Earlier in the day, he set a UNCW program and freshman record when he clocked in at 1:56.27.

Hunter Smith (244.45 points) won the 1-meter consolation and Lauren Mehta (244.05) was second.

UNCW's 400 freestyle relay of Mac Russell, Jacob Duracinsky, Robert Tars, and Kenneth Lowe closed out the championships with a meet-record winning time of 2:53.65.

Head Coach Bobby Guntoro was named both Men's and Women's Coach of the Year while Gavrilo Blijden was honored as the Men's Diving Coach of the Year.

Sophomore Ethan Badrian was named CAA Diver of the Meet.
