Men's Basketball Preview: Vs Towson (CAA Tournament)

WASHINGTON, D.C. – UNCW opens its Coastal Athletic Association tournament run on Sunday with a 2:30 tip-off against Towson at the Entertainment & Sports Arena.

Sunday's quarterfinal matchup with the Tigers will be streamed on FloHoops and broadcast on 95.9 The Breeze in Wilmington and 959thebreeze.com.

The Seahawks (21-9, 12-6 CAA) and the Tigers (19-13, 11-7 CAA) last met on March 2 at Trask Coliseum with UNCW earning a 75-64 win on Senior Day that also clinched the four-seed and the double-bye that came with it.

The two programs split their season series with the Tigers knocking off the Seahawks, 67-64, on a last-second shot by freshman Tyler Tejada in Towson.

The UNCW program has played in each of the last two conference championship games but came up short in both. The Seahawks fell to Delaware, 59-55, in 2022 and then dropped a 63-58 decision last year to Charleston. The Seahawks have won the tournament six times, including back-to-back titles in 2016 and 2017. UNCW's first conference title came in 2000 against Richmond in a 57-47 final. The program has played in 12 conference finals.

Trazarien White and Shykeim Phillips were named to the league's first and third all-conference squads, respectively, and Phillips earned a spot on the A—Defensive team. White led the Seahawks and ranks among the conference leaders at 19.6 ppg and paces the Seahawks with seven rebounds per game. Phillips, meanwhile, averages 14 ppg and is third nationally in assist/turnover ratio at 3.9. He also finished the regular season as the circuit's steals leader (1.8).

The winner of the game advances to the semifinals on Monday.
