De Gabriele, Wayand Reach Quarters At ITA Conference Masters

ROME, Ga. – Alex de Gabriele and Joseph Wayand's run for an NCAA Championship doubles championship berth came to a halt on Friday with a three-set loss to Notre Dame in the quarterfinal round at the ITA Conference Masters.

De Gabriele and Wayand advanced to the quarterfinals earlier on Friday with a 6-2, 7-5 win over Richmond's duo of Jack Davison and Brogan Pierce.

In the quarterfinals, de Gabriele and Wayand lost to the second-seeded Fighting Irish team of Peter Nad and Sebastian Dominko, 6-4, 7-5.

The Seahawks now turn their attention to the spring opener against national power Florida State on Jan. 25 in Tallahassee. UNCW joins the Seminoles, San Diego and South Carolina that weekend as part of the ITA Kickoff Weekend.
