Landfall Tradition Tees Off on Friday

WILMINGTON, North Carolina – Many of the top women's collegiate teams in the country take the course at the Country Club of Landfall's neatly manicured Pete Dye layout this weekend for the 22nd annual Landfall Tradition hosted once again by UNCW.

The three-day event from Oct. 25-27 will tee off early Friday and Saturday mornings at 8:30 a.m. The final round will commence on Sunday, Oct. 27, for a shotgun start at 9 am. The tournament will be contested on the Par-72, 6,178-yard rolling layout nestled along the Intracoastal Waterway near Wrightsville Beach.

Admission and parking is free and spectators should use the Eastwood Road entrance to Landfall.

"We're very excited to host our 22nd Landfall Tradition," said UNCW Head Coach Cindy Ho. "The Dye course is a championship layout and in perfect condition. The Tradition Committee and Landfall staff have done an amazing job with the preparations and we look forward to outstanding play from this nationally ranked field. This invitational would not be possible without the support of our major sponsors, PolyQuest, Live Oak Bank and NCINO."

The nationally-known tournament features eight of the top-40 teams this year, according to the latest Golfstat rankings: No. 11 Virginia, No. 12 North Carolina, No. 13 Florida State, No. 17 Ole Miss, No. 20 Duke, No. 22 Michigan State, No. 35, Clemson and no. 40 UCF.

No. 3 South Carolina, who has won the team tournament three times, will also have individuals.

The 17-team field is shored up by Alabama, Furman, Maryland, Illinois, NC State, Notre Dame, Penn State and South Florida.

Duke won its record fifth Landfall Tradition championship last year by virtue of a tiebreaker over Clemson.

Other previous champions in this year's team field include the Cavaliers (2006) and Crimson Tide (2013).

At No. 76, UNCW is the third-highest Coastal Athletic Association team in the NCAA rankings behind Campbell (No. 49) and College of Charleston (No. 51).

UNCW is the lone school to compete in every Landfall Tradition since its inception in 2002.
