Burroughs' Brace Highlights 7-0 Win

WILMINGTON, North Carolina -- Led by Kayla Burroughs' fourth career brace, the UNCW women's soccer team exploded for seven goals in a 7-0 win over Hampton at the UNCW Soccer Stadium on Thursday night.

The Seahawks moved to 2-5 overall with a 1-1 Coastal Athletic Association record. The Lady Pirates stumbled to 0-9 and 0-3 in league play.

Burroughs was one of six Seahawks to register goals on a season-high 20 shots. The junior forward was joined in the scoring column by Viktoria Hankova, and the first career goals for Emily Bowbliss, Allison Burrus, Ainsley Norr and Ayla Vaneus.

The UNCW defense held Hampton to only four shots while goalkeeper Hanna Wise recorded one save in her second clean sheet in her last three games.

Bowbliss started the scoring in the 12th minute on a header serviced by Hankova. Four minutes later, Burroughs found the back of the net on a score assisted by Makaya Parham and Kenady Adams.

The Seahawks took a 2-0 lead into the intermission after registering nine shots in the first half. Hankova started the five-goal second half with a goal in the 60th minute aided by junior McKenna Gardner.

Sophomore Cameryn Keane and junior Summer Beesley linked up on Burroughs' second goal of the contest less than two minutes after Hankova's marker.

Vanues converted a penalty kick goal in the 79th minute and Burrus connected on a strike from the 18-yard box rough 2:30 later.

Norr, a Wilmington¸ N.C., product, capped the seven-goal day with a goal with 40 seconds left in the match assisted by Burrus.

UNCW scored seven goals in a match for the first time since blanking South Carolina State 7-0 on the road on Aug. 21, 2016.

The Seahawks remain home on Sunday to battle CAA rival Charleston at 1 p.m.
