Burroughs' Late Goal Lifts Seahawks Over Cougars

WILMINGTON, North Carolina – Forward Kayla Burroughs kicked in the game-winning goal in the 88th minute to push UNCW past the College of Charleston in Coastal Athletic Association women's soccer action at the UNCW Soccer Stadium on Sunday afternoon.

The Seahawks (3-5, 2-1 CAA) earned their second straight shutout victory. The Cougars (1-6-1, 1-2 CAA) dropped their second consecutive contest.

Both squads recorded 10 shots, with UNCW registering five attempts each half. The two rivals combined for 11 corner kicks.

The scoreless contest appeared to be headed for a draw late in the game when Burroughs received a cross from sophomore Issy Bryant that Burroughs struck inside the right post for the game-winner.

It marked the third goal of the week for Burroughs, who had a brace vs. Hampton last Thursday.

Graduate goalkeeper Hanna Wise earned her second solo clean sheet of the season with her three-save effort.

UNCW next travels to face CAA opponent Elon on Thursday night at 7 p.m.
