Cougars Edge UNCW To Take Series

MOUNT PLEASANT, S.C. – Cam Dean's two-out single in the bottom of the eighth proved to be the difference as Charleston knocked off UNCW, 8-7, in the Colonial Athletic Association series finale on Sunday at Patriots Point.

The Cougars (32-18, 17-10) handed the Seahawks (28-20, 17-8) their first weekend series loss of the season. UNCW remains in first place following Northeastern's 6-5 loss at William & Mary.

Trotter Harlan, who finished with three hits and stole two bases, homered twice and knocked in five runs to lead the Cougars while Khyree Miller also collected three hits and scored twice.

Cole Mathis (5-1) earned the win in relief while William Privette nailed down his ninth save.

Alec DeMartino paced the Seahawks with two hits, including his eighth homer of the season, and drove three runs. Trevor Marsh stayed hot with two hits, including his 11th roundtripper of the season. Bryan Arendt also homered for the Seahawks.

Brett Banks (0-3) took the loss in relief.

The Seahawks open a four-game homestand on May 16 with a 5 p.m. start against top-rank Wake Forest.
