No. 18 Seminoles Handle Visiting Seahawks

Box Score TALLAHASSEE, Florida – No. 18 Florida State jumped out to an early lead and cruised to a 4-0 non-conference men's tennis victory over UNCW late Friday at the Scott Speicher Memorial Tennis Center.

The Seminoles boosted their record to 18-5 with back-to-back victories on Friday. FSU blanked Atlantic Coast Conference foe Boston College, 7-0, earlier in the day and moved to 10-1 at home by beating the Seahawks in a 6:30 p.m. start.

The Seahawks had their seven-match winning streak snapped and stand 11-6 following the loss in the rare evening match.

FSU grabbed a quick 1-0 advantage with back-to-back victories at No. 1 and No. 2 doubles. The No. 2 tandem of Antoine Cornut-Chauvinc and Joshua Dous-Karpenschif topped UNCW's Reece Falck and Alex de Gabriele, 6-3, to nail down the early point.

The Seminoles then rolled in singles, sweeping the first three matches off the court.

Cornut-Chauvinc, ranked fourth nationally, blistered Falck, 6-0, 6-3, at the top of the lineup to get things started in singles play for the Seminoles. Junior Andreja Petrovic then defeated UNCW sophomore Trey Mallory at the No. 4 position, 6-0, 6-4, for a 3-0 lead.

Sophomore Jamie Connel put the match away at No. 5 singles by trimming UNCW  graduate student Innocenti, 6-1, 7-5.

The Seahawks return home for their final five matches of the regular season, beginning with a 2 p.m. first toss on Tuesday, Apr. 11, vs. Colonial Athletic Association opponent North Carolina A&T.
