Seahawks Add Jenkins To Roster For 2023-24 Season

WILMINGTON, North Carolina – Versatile guard K.J. Jenkins will be joining the UNCW men's basketball team after playing the last two seasons at New Mexico, Seahawk head coach Takayo Siddle announced Monday.

The 6-2, 180-point Jenkins appeared in all 33 games last season for the Lobos, who fashioned a 22-12 record and advanced to the National Invitation Tournament. He averaged 7.4 points and 1.8 rebounds per game, shooting 55.4 percent from long distance in Mountain West Conference games and reaching double figures 11 times.

jenkins_kj1"We are thrilled to have KJ join our team," said Siddle. "He is an elite shooter and an even better teammate and leader. He will have an immediate impact on our backcourt."

Jenkins, who hails from Atlanta, Ga., played high school basketball at Creekview High School, where he averaged 21.0 points, 5.0 rebounds and 3.0 assists as a senior. He was a three-time All-County and All-Region selection and named Region Player of the Year following his senior campaign. He remains Creekview's all-time leading scorer.

Jenkins then attended North Georgia in Dahlonega, Ga., for one season in 2019-20 and Kilgore College in Kilgore, Texas, for one year in 2020-21 before moving to Albuquerque to play for the Lobos.

jenkins_kj2Jenkins drained 108 three-pointers in two seasons at New Mexico and scored a MWC-leading 268 points off the bench in 2021-22. This past season, the co-captain scored a season-high 17 points in UNM's 82-74 home victory over Iona on Dec. 18, draining 6-of-9 field goals, including 4-for-7 from deep. He also had 14 points in a 76-75 triumph at Wyoming on Dec. 31.

The Seahawks are coming off another outstanding season in 2022-23. UNCW went 24-10, captured the championship of the Baha Mar Nassau Championship and advanced to the title game of the Colonial Athletic Association Tournament for the second straight year.
