UNCW Pounds #23 TCU To Win Series

FT. WORTH, Texas – Freshman Connor Kane struck out six over 5.2 innings of relief and UNCW combined for 11 two-out runs batted in as the Seahawks pounded #23 TCU, 12-6, on Sunday to clinch a series win at Lupton Stadium against the Horned Frogs.

The Seahawks, who haven't lost a weekend series this season, improved to 21-13 with their 10th road win of the season. TCU dropped to 22-14 with the home loss.

UNCW posted its first road series win over a ranked opponent.

Kane (2-1) earned the win with his career-long outing. He tossed four consecutive scoreless innings before surrendering a home run in the eighth inning.

Bryan Arendt had three hits to lead the lineup for the Seahawks and he knocked in two runs. Dillon Lifrieri and Jac Croom had two-hit games while Alec DeMartino belted his fifth home run of the season, with two men on, in a four-run sixth inning that pushed UNCW's lead to 12-5.

Brayden Taylor homered twice and finished with five runs batted in. Three of TCU's four hits were home runs.

Cam Brown (2-2) was roughed up for four runs in 1.2 innings and took the loss.

The Seahawks host nationally-ranked Campbell on Tuesday at 6 p.m. before returning to conference play with Delaware beginning on Friday. That weekend will also be Alumni Weekend as the Seahawks welcome back members of the 1963 National Championship, the 2003 and 2013 NCAA regional teams.

How it happened: UNCW pushed four runs across in the top of the second inning to erase a 1-0 TCU lead. Brock Wills tripled to right to highlight the outburst which also included aN RBI ground out by Arendt and an RBI infield single for Lifrieri. UNCW added three in the third inning to take a commanding 7-1 lead it would never lose.
