Lines Sets School Record at Raleigh Relays

RALEIGH, North Carolina – Senior Courtney Lines broke her own school record in the long jump as the UNCW track and field teams concluded the Raleigh Relays on Saturday at NC State's Paul Derr Track & Field Facility.
 
"It was a great early-season meet for us," said Jeff Klaves, UNCW's fourth-year head coach. "We're excited about the momentum we're building by competing and trusting the plan we had going into the meet. This group is on track to do some big things."
 
Lines, from Leland, N.C., posted a mark of 20-04.50 in the long jump to eclipse her own mark of 20-03.25 set last year at the Bob Davidson Memorial Invitational. She finished in second place behind NC State's Jirah Sidberry (20-05.25) in the 54-athlete field.
 
"Courtney was the No. 9 seed going into the finals and competed well to move up to second place," said Klaves "We're proud of the way she responded and competed in the finals."
 
Senior Josh Parks delivered a great start in the 400 meter hurdles before meeting some challenges. "Josh made a great push through the curve from 200 to 300 meters, but unfortunately, he clipped hurdle No. 10. We're really proud of his ability to finish out the race. He's setting himself for a great year in the 400 hurdles."
 
The 4x400 relay teams, Klaves said, ran well in Raleigh. "Our women are off to a great start with a 3:55.91…that's the best opener that's happened during my tenure. Nickolis Anderson turned in a 46-second 400 to solidify his school-record performance on Friday. Dalton Zimmerman had a great race down the homestretch."
 
Junior Cooper Wright also made his 2023 debut this weekend and ran a 21.70 in the 200 meters, improving on his opening time from last year.
 
Klaves said, "We had some great performances this weekend that are a testimony to the hard work they continue to put in. We look forward to building on this weekend as we look ahead to the East Carolina meet."

The Seahawks make their fourth appearance of the outdoor season next weekend by competing in East Carolina's Bill Carson Invitational on Mar. 31-April 1, 2023, in Greenville, N.C.
