Isley, Seahawks Finish Third In Spring Opener

JOHNS ISLAND, S.C. – Led by Walker Isley's third-place finish, UNCW opened its spring schedule with a third-place showing on Tuesday at the Battle at Briar's Creek at the Golf Club at Briar's Creek on Johns Island, S.C.

Wake Forest earned the team championship by nine strokes over runner-up Memphis. The Seahawks took third by a pair of strokes over Kentucky and Virginia Tech rounded out the top five.

For Isley, it was his third top-10 finish of the season and the second top-five showing. Isley was tied for the tournament lead after two rounds but Wake Forest's Mark Power carded a four-under-par 68 in the final round for medalist honors.

Sander Akeren gave UNCW a top-20 finish when he tied for 18th overall at one-over for the tournament.

The Seahawks played par-5's at 15-under for the tournament and posted a tournament-high 57 birdies. Akeren and Patrick Sparks led that birdie mark with 15 apiece.

The Seahawks next compete on Feb. 16-18 at the John Burns Intercollegiate in Kauai, Hawaii.
