Seahawks Get Out Quick In Season-Opening Win

All 12 Seahawks score in 105-66 win over Mount Olive

WILMINGTON, N.C. – UNCW junior Trazarien White had 23 points and UNCW shot 54.3% from the field as UNCW cruised past Mount Olive, 105-66, in the season opener for both programs Monday at Trask Coliseum.

White led four Seahawks (1-0) in double figures as KJ Jenkins (14 points), Nick Farrar (12) and Shykeim Phillips joined him in the scoring parade. Jenkins connected on 4-of-6 three-point attempts and added a pair of rebounds and assists.

Donovan Newby doled out five assists and scored eight points for UNCW.

Redford Dutton paced Mount Olive (0-1) with 21 points while Shane Peterson chipped in 11.

UNCW built a 55-31 lead at the half, shooting 58.8% from the field. White scored 18 of his 23 points in the first half.

All 12 Seahawks that dressed out for the game played and scored.

The Seahawks visit Big South Conference favorite UNC Asheville on Nov. 11 for a 2 p.m. start at Kimmel Arena.

Notes: UNCW head coach Takayo Siddle earned his first season-opening win in four attempts … The Seahawks pushed their record to 5-0 all-time against Mount Olive … UNCW improved to 29-31 all-time in season openers, but is 21-7 at home in those games … Shykeim Phillips appeared in his 100th game as a Seahawk … The win snapped a three-game losing skid in season openers … UNCW last scored 105 points in an opener against North Carolina Wesleyan (105-81) in 2017.
