Seahawks Pass Early Road Test With Flying Colors

UNCW knocked off Big South favorite UNC Asheville in convincing fashion

ASHEVILLE, N.C. – Led by Maleeck Harden-Hayes with 16 points, UNCW landed six players in double figures in a convincing 83-66 road win on Saturday over host UNC Asheville at the Kimmel Arena.

UNCW improved to 2-0 on the season for the first time since 2016-27 with an impressive road win. The Bulldogs, meanwhile, fell to 0-2 with the loss in their home opener.

Joining Harden-Hayes in double digits were Trazarien White (13), Shykeim Phillips (12), Nick Farrar and Nolan Hodge added 11 points apiece and Donovan Newby had 10.

Harden-Hayes also hauled in a team-best eight rebounds as UNCW controlled the boards, 35-23.

Drew Pember posted a double-double in the loss for UNCW, posting game-highs with 19 points and 11 rebounds. He also doled out a game-high six assists.

UNCW's largest lead of the game, 73-46, came with 8:45 remaining in the second half following a fast break layup by White.

UNCW returns to Trask Coliseum to host Columbia International at 7:05 p.m. on Nov. 14.

Notes: UNCW converted 17 turnovers into 19 points and held a 33-20 advantage in bench scoring … Newby finished making 7-of-8 from the line as UNCW knocked down 23-of-30 free throw attempts … Phillips enters the Columbia International game with 989 points … Hodge set a career-high with three3-pointers made and tied his career-high with four taken … The Seahawks improved to 18-9 all-time against Asheville and have won 13 of the last 14 meetings.
