Seahawks Earn Key Win vs. Tribe

WILMINGTON, North Carolina – Powered by goals in each half, the UNCW women's soccer team earned a key 2-0 victory over William & Mary to maintain position in the Coastal Athletic Association standings on Thursday night at the UNCW Soccer Stadium.

The Seahawks (5-7-2, 4-3-2 CAA) remain in sixth place in the league standings. The Tribe (8-2-5, 5-2-2 CAA) dropped to fifth place in the circuit with their second loss of the year.

The win puts UNCW two points ahead of seventh-place Stony Brook, who the Seahawks beat 1-0 last Thursday.

For the second straight home game, UNCW scored within the first minute on a goal by junior Emily Bowbliss. The Whispering Pines, N.C., native was assisted by sophomore Issy Bryant and junior Kayla Burroughs.

Burroughs contributed her second assist of the game in the 74th minute when she played a corner kick into the box that graduate defender Kenady Adams headed in to add the insurance goal.

The Seahawks host third-place Monmouth, who have clinched a CAA Championship berth, at 1 p.m. on Sunday.
