Monmouth Spoils UNCW's Home Finale

WILMINGTON, North Carolina – Monmouth used three second half goals to spoil UNCW's home finale with a 3-1 setback in Sunday afternoon Coastal Athletic Association women's soccer action at the UNCW Soccer Stadium.

The Hawks (8-4-2, 7-1-2 CAA) jumped to a tie for second place in the conference along with Towson, who fell 1-0 to Northeastern on Sunday. The Seahawks (5-8-2, 4-4-2 CAA) dipped to seventh in the league ahead of a road swing at Drexel and Delaware to close out the regular season next weekend.

Monmouth, the defending league regular season champions, outshot UNCW 17-6. Graduate goalkeeper Hanna Wise saved a career-high nine shots for the Seahawks.

The Hawks had to rally after UNCW sophomore Issy Bryant scored her third goal of the season 50 seconds after halftime. UNCW's Kayla Burroughs and Emily Bowbliss assisted Bryant to give the Seahawks a 1-0 lead following a scoreless first half.

Monmouth midfielder Maddison Perna evened the game in the 57th minute with a strike through the back of the net aided by defender Chloe Ferreira. The Hawks would then score two more times late in a six-minute span with goals by Julia Evernham (78:06) and Rachel Ludwick (83:25) to move past UNCW 3-1.

The Seahawks, who closed out 2023 with a 5-4 home record, will kick off at the Dragons on Thursday at 7 p.m.
