In eight seasons with the program, Wainwright compiled a legacy of success that included four post-season berths, a pair of CAA titles and the program's first NCAA Tournament victory. He compiled a record of 136-103 with the Seahawks and closed out his head coaching career with a 245-225 scorecard at three stops.

A native of Chicago and former assistant at Xavier and Wake Forest, Wainwright piloted UNCW to NCAA berths in 2000 and 2002 and NIT appearances in 1998 and 2001. He was named Colonial Athletic Association Coach-of-the-Year in 1998 and 2001.

The Seahawks began their successful run under Wainwright in 1997-98 when they notched their first post-season berth (NIT) with a share of the CAA regular season title and a 20-11 record. In 1999-2000, Wainwright took the Seahawks to the mountaintop, earning the school's initial NCAA Tournament bid with a storybook season. Rookie sharpshooter Brett Blizzard swept a bevy of honors as UNCW captured the CAA Championship and finished 18-13.

In 2000-01, the Seahawks reached the CAA title game again and collected a second trip to the NIT, finishing at 19-11. In 2001-02, the Seahawks captured their second CAA crown, upset fourth-seeded Southern Cal in the NCAA Tournament and racked up a then-school record 23 victories.

"The tipoff banquet is a great night for our basketball program," said third-year UNCW Head Coach Takayo Siddle. "Being able to spend some intimate time with our supporters means the world to us. This is our biggest fundraising opportunity of the year, so we're extremely grateful.

"We're very pleased to welcome Jerry Wainwright as the keynote speaker. He was extremely successful during this time in Wilmington and I'm sure his remarks will bring back some fond memories for Seahawk fans."
