Coaches Tab Seahawks Second In CAA Preseason Poll

WILMINGTON, North Carolina – The UNCW men's soccer team has been picked to finish second among the Colonial Athletic Associations' 10 teams in the league's preseason poll announced on Tuesday.
 
The Seahawks, 9-6-2 in 2021, tallied two more points than Elon to secure the second spot in the CAA Predicted Order of Finish. Hofstra was selected as the preseason favorite to repeat as conference champions.
 
Senior midfielder Bachir Ndiaye was named to the CAA Preseason All-Conference team and senior goalkeeper Gabriel Perrotta, a three-time All-CAA Second-Teamer, garnered Honorable Mention distinctions.
 
Ndiaye has become a steady piece for the Seahawks since becoming a starter last season. The Jacksonville, N.C., product started 15 games and played 1,135 minutes, the second most among returners, in 2021. Ndiaye also attempted five shots, with two on goal.
 
Perrotta finished last year ranked second in the CAA with a .775 save percentage and produced six shutouts. The senior's 79 saves, including a career-high 14 stops at Virginia on Oct. 5, 2021, were good for second in the league and ranked 15th in the nation.
 
The Asuncion, Paraguay, ranks 10th in school history with 151 saves while starting all 44 games in his three-year career at UNCW.
 
The Seahawks open the regular season on the road in the nation's capital against American on Aug. 25.
