Suggs Agrees To FA Contract With Nationals

WILMINGTON, N.C. – Former UNCW standout Matt Suggs has agreed to a free agent contract with the Washington Nationals and will begin his professional career this summer.

Suggs earned honorable mention All-CAA honors as a catcher in 2022, finishing among the Colonial Athletic Association leaders in home runs (13) and runs batted in (48) while leading the Seahawks in both categories.

Suggs started 50-of-51 games this past season and finished with 150 career games played with the Seahawks. During his tenure, the Seahawks captured the CAA tournament championship in 2019 and advanced to the CAA championship game in 2021.

With 26 career home runs, Suggs finished 16th in home runs at UNCW and was hit by pitches 30 times, tying for eighth all-time in the program.

The Seahawks had a pair of players drafted earlier this week with Brooks Baldwin being selected by the Chicago White Sox and incoming freshman Tanner Thach was picked by the San Francisco Giants.
