WILMINGTON, N.C. – UNCW red-shirt junior infielder
Brooks Baldwin was named Player of the Year by the league's coaches the Colonial Athletic Association announced on Tuesday when it announced the all-conference squads and player awards.
Baldwin, who began the season as the circuit's preseason Player of the Year, becomes the eighth Seahawk to earn the Bill Brooks Award, which is named after longtime UNCW baseball coach and department director of athletics. Baldwin also earned first-team All-CAA honors for the second consecutive season, but the first as an infielder. Baldwin earned All-CAA honors in 2021 in the outfield but made the move to second base this season.
In 2022, Baldwin led the CAA with a career-high .348 batting average and 144 total bases. He enters the CAA tournament tied for third with 11 home runs and ranks among the conference leaders in five other categories.
Baldwin joins former Seahawks Trent Mongero (1989), Battle Holley (1994), Bryan Britt (1996), Mark Carver (2008), Nick Feight (2016), Casey Golden (2017) and Greg Jones (2019) as Brooks Award recipients for UNCW.
