CHARLOTTESVILLE, Virginia – Nasiah Ferguson set a freshman record in the 400 Meters to highlight UNCW's finishes on Friday at the Virginia Track & Field Challenge at Lannigan Field.
Â
Ferguson, from Hendersonville, N.C., clocked a 55.92 time in the Women's 400 Meters to break the 14-year-old record of 56.76 set by Alexis Kauffman in 2008. Ferguson finished 23
rd in the field.
Â
Ferguson time ranks fourth all-time on the school's 400m list behind Lauren Donaldson (2008), Shenecia Sessoms (1996) and Nicole Delaine (1993).
Â
On the men's side, Nickolis Anderson set a season best in the 400m at 48.25, just off his PR set last year at the CAA Championships.
Â
"It was a solid day for us," said
Jeff Klaves, UNCW's third-year head coach. "This is the most competitive meet we've competed in this year and we're hanging right there with the top programs in the country."
Â
The Seahawks, making their eighth appearance of the spring, are competing against numerous schools, including Colonial Athletic Association rivals Towson and William & Mary.
Â
UNCW concludes the meet on Saturday, beginning with the field events at Noon and the running competition at 12:30 p.m.
