Diamond Hawks Collect Season-High 18 Hits in Series Clinching Win

WILMINGTON, N.C. – UNCW pounded out a season-high 18 hits as seven hitters had multiple hit games as the Seahawks clinched a series win against visiting Towson with an 11-5 win Saturday at Brooks Field.

The Seahawks raided their record to 20-13 overall and 5-2 in the Colonial Athletic Association. Towson, meanwhile, slid to 9-25 and 0-8 in the league.

Heading up the offense for UNCW were Ethan Baucom, Jac Croom and Bryan Arendt, all with three hits apiece. Croom scored twice and knocked in two while Arendt scored twice himself and collected three RBI's. Chris Thorburn also had three RBI's and a pair of doubles.
Noah Overton (1-1) was credited with the win in relief of starter Cyle Phelan.

Burke Camper finished with three hits for the Tigers.

Nick Ramanjulu (2-5) was tagged with the loss, allowing four runs on six hits over three innings of work.

How it happened: UNCW scored in each of the first two innings for a 2-0 lead. Thorburn doubled to right to lead off the Seahawks first inning and came around to score on the back end of a double steal with John Newton swiping second. Croom opened the second with a single and moved into scoring position when Ron Evans was hit by a pitch. Thorburn plated Croom later in the inning with a sacrifice fly to center for a 2-0 lead.

Inside the box score: UNCW pitching held Towson to 1-for-16 hitting with RISP … The Seahawks were 8-for-21 with RISP and scored a runner from third with less than two outs four times … Towson did manage to get its lead off hitter on base five times and UNCW did so six … Taber Mongero and Newton both have five-game hitting streaks … Phelan tossed four shutout innings but had to work out of possible run scoring innings his last three innings.

Up next: The series concludes with a 1 p.m. start on Sunday with the Seahawks looking to complete a weekend sweep.
