Parks Leads Seahawks At Raleigh Relays

RALEIGH, North Carolina – UNCW track and field junior Josh Parks smashed a 17-year-old record in the Men's 110 Meter Hurdles to highlight the team's finishes on Friday at the highly-competitive Raleigh Relays.

More than 150 schools are represented in the three-day meet at N.C. State's Paul Derr Track.

Parks, from Kannapolis, N.C., clocked a 13.95 time in the 110 Meter Hurdles to finish third, trailing only Ohio State's Oscar Smith (13.73) and N.C. State's Cameron Murray (13.90). The 6-4, 190-pound hurdler broke the record of 14.01 set by Zeickia Ledwell at the IC4A Championships on May 15, 2005.

Parks' time is the seventh best in the East and 11th best in the nation as of today's rankings. He will compete in the 400 Meter Hurdles and 4x400 Relay on Saturday's final day of action in the meet.

The Seahawks also excelled in the Women's Triple Jump on Friday, where Tori Whimple (40.01.50) and Jayda Hunter (39-08.75) performed well. Whimple wound up in fifth place and Hunter finished seventh.
