Seahawks Take Nine Events In Invitational

WILMINGTON, North Carolina – Freshman Keegan Wiggins picked up three first-place finishes to headline UNCW's competitors on Saturday in the Seahawk Invitational at the Harold Greene Track & Field Complex.
 
Competing in blustery weather, the Seahawks were joined by eight other teams in the meet, which was delayed due to severe weather early in the day. The meet finally started at 2 p.m. and several events were adjusted because of the conditions.
 
Wiggins, a freshman from Charlotte, took first in the 100 (11.35) and 200 Meters (25.89) and ran the third leg on the winning 4x100 Relay unit (43.31) with Taylen West, Josh Parks and Owen Pelletier. Another rookie, Khairi Williams was on the relay team and won the 110 Meter Hurdles (15.60). In addition, freshman Donovan Lara cleared the bar at 6-4 for first in the High Jump.
 
On the women's side, freshman Nasiah Ferguson captured first in the 400 Meters (1:00.60, senior Alexa Woltjen won the 1,500 Meters (4:40.15) and senior Gabby Ryan took the Long Jump (16-9.75). The women's 4x100 Relay team of Janiyah Fields, Brynn Sheffield, Destiny Smith and Courtney Lines also finished first.

The Seahawks compete in the third of eight outdoor meets next week with an appearance in the Bob Davidson Memorial in High Point, N.C.
