Seahawks Picked Fifth, Phillips Recognized

WILMINGTON, North Carolina – The UNCW men's basketball team has been picked to finish fifth by the Colonial Athletic Association's head coaches ahead of the 2022-23 season.

phillips_preseasonThe Seahawks, who earned a share of the CAA regular season crown and went on to capture the championship of the College Basketball Invitational one year ago, were chosen to wind up behind Towson, Hofstra, Delaware and Charleston in the preseason poll released by the CAA early Wednesday.

Senior guard Shykeim Phillips (South Central HS/Winterville, N.C.) was named to the All-CAA Preseason Second-Team after averaging 11.3 points and 3.8 rebounds last year. The Winterville, N.C., product was selected to the CAA's All-Defensive Team in 2021-22 following a stellar junior campaign.

It marks the fourth time (2005-06, 2006-07, 2017-18, 2018-19) that the Seahawks have been tabbed to finish fifth in the preseason poll.
UNCW was predicted to finish ninth last season before turning the tables on the experts in a memorable season that was capped by the championship of the CBI in Daytona Beach, Fla.
