Tucker Named Deputy A.D. for Seahawks

WILMINGTON, North Carolina – Tiffany D. Tucker, who has served as Senior Associate Athletic Director and Senior Woman Administrator at UNCW since January of 2019, has been named Deputy Athletic Director, Director of Athletics Jimmy Bass announced on Thursday.
 
"Tiffany is a superstar in college athletics," said Bass. "She's a wonderful human being who brought an unmatched work ethic to UNCW. She is well-respected by Seahawk student-athletes, coaches and staff as well as her peers throughout campus for her love of this great university. Her work on the CAA level has made our league better."
 
A former basketball standout at North Carolina and collegiate women's basketball coach, Tucker has established a legacy as a seasoned athletic administrator with extensive experience in the college athletics realm.
 
"I would like to thank Chancellor (Jose) Sartarelli and Jimmy Bass for their leadership and commitment to UNCW Athletics," said Tucker. "I am humbled by the opportunity to continue to impact our students, coaches and staff, we make a great team! I am fortunate to be a part of something so special and work with such passionate people."
 
A native of Petersburg, Va., Tucker joined the Seahawk staff after serving as Deputy Director of Athletics for Internal Operations and Senior Woman Administrator at S.C. State. She previously gained athletic administration experience at Elizabeth City State, Hampton and S.C. State and coached basketball at Allegheny (Pa.) College, Radford, Francis Marion and Claflin.

Since her arrival in Wilmington, Tucker has played a key role in the overall operations of the department during challenging times. She has led important searches for the program's Head Men's Basketball Coach, Head Volleyball Coach, Director of Sports Performance and Senior Associate AD for Internal Operations.

On campus, she was a member of the search committee for a new Vice Chancellor of Student Affairs and currently serves on the Community Engagement & Applied Learning Advisory Board, Emergency Planning Committee, eSports Steering Committee and Innovation and Economic Prosperity Universities Program Committee.

Tucker is a participant in the UNC System Executive Leadership Institute's second cohort. The program is designed to build the next generation of top leadership from within the UNC System. The 10-month program provides an overall view of the UNC System, its operations and future leadership opportunities. The institute develops leadership skills by sharing best practices and forming partnerships among participants and their institutions. Members benefit from executive coaching on an individual level and in a team setting.

In February of 2021, Tucker organized the National Girls & Women in Sports Day Leadership Summit to celebrate the successes and achievements of female athletes. The special virtual program featured a one-on-one interview with Patti Phillips, chief executive officer of Women Leaders in College Sports and highlighted five industry experts in the areas of business, philanthropy, journalism, wellness and athletics.

Last March, Tucker was appointed to a four-year term on the NCAA Women's Basketball Rules Committee. She holds membership on a committee of 13 members who are responsible for providing guidance to member schools on experimental and permanent rules implementations for the sport.

Tucker has also been active in the leadership of the Colonial Athletic Association. She serves as chair of the CAA Family: United for Change Committee. The committee is developing a strategic direction for the conference, and will provide an opportunity for institutions to share resources related to anti-racism and social justice efforts. Among the goals will be engaging student-athletes, coaches, staff and alumni in conference-wide initiatives that will help enact meaningful change.

Tucker is a 2018 graduate of the NCAA-sponsored Dr. Charles Whitcomb Leadership Institute. She serves on the Minority Opportunities Athletic Association (MOAA) Membership Committee and the Women Leaders in College Sports Education and Professional Development Committee.
 
Tucker was selected by the United States Olympic Committee to participate in the Ethnic Minority Women in Coaching Leadership Program in Colorado Springs in 2015. She is also a 2008 graduate of the National Association for Collegiate Women Athletic Administrators, now Women Leaders in College Sports Institute for Administrative Advancement (NACWAA/HERS), 2017 graduate of the Leadership Enhancement Institute and 2021 graduate of the Executive Institute.
 
In addition, Tucker is a member of the National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics (NACDA) and Women Leaders in College Sports.
 
A graduate of Matoaca High School, Tucker was inducted as a MHS legend in September of 2017. She received her Bachelor of Arts Degree in Philosophy at North Carolina in 2005 and completed a Master's of Science Degree in Sport Administration from Hampton in 2017.
