Lloyd Claims Second At Aggie Classic

GREENSBORO, North Carolina – Junior Jonathan Lloyd placed second in the Men's Javelin Throw to highlight UNCW's finishes in North Carolina A&T's Aggie Classic Twilight Meet on Sunday at the Irwin Belk Track Complex.

"We proved today that we belong in moments like this," said UNCW Head Track and Field Coach Jeff Klaves. "All six of our student-athletes competed extremely well and put themselves in positions to qualify. Now it's about building on today.

"They earned this opportunity and took full advantage of another meet to showcase the direction this program is going. We are small in number, but elite. That means every athlete contributes, every athlete has a purpose and the program is building daily. We're extremely proud of this group."

Lloyd, from San Antonio, Texas, tossed the javelin 175-9 to finish in second place, trailing only Campbell's Josh Kudrick at 184-0.

The six Seahawks – Lloyd, Gabrielle Ryan, Jayda Hunter, Josh Parks, Makiya Spencer and Victoria Whimple - attempted to qualify for the NCAA's East Preliminary round, which features the top-48 in the region competing on May 26-29, 2021, Jacksonville, Fla.
