WILMINGTON, North Carolina – UNCWSports.com will look at the members of the UNCW Department of Athletics staff with a weekly feature called "Seahawk Staff Spotlight." Each Tuesday, the website will profile a different member of the staff.

Our final profile showcases Kurt Kanaskie, who just completed his first season as a member of the UNCW Men's Basketball coaching staff. Kanaskie, a veteran coach with 40 years of college basketball experience, joined the Seahawks after six seasons at Air Force.  

What do you remember about your first day working at UNCW? 
I was staying at our home in Florida and we were not allowed on campus for a few months. It was strange living in Florida, but working at UNCW.   

What does working at UNCW mean to you?
It is nice working at an institution that takes pride in the basketball program and provides the resources to be successful. We have a glorious past and we want to continue the tradition.

If you were an athlete, what jersey number would you want to wear and why?
#22 – I wore it in college

Did you play sports in college? If so, what sport and where did you play?
I was a basketball student-athlete at La Salle University from 1976-80.
