WILMINGTON, North Carolina – UNCWSports.com will look at the members of the UNCW Department of Athletics staff with a weekly feature called "Seahawk Staff Spotlight." Each Tuesday, the website will profile a different member of the staff.
Our newest installment looks at
Rob Brickels, who is in his 23rd year as a member of the UNCW Department of Athletics. Serving as the Associate Athletic Director for External Operations, Brickels oversees Seahawk Sports Marketing in addition to ticket operations and the UNCW spirit groups. The UNCW alum is also the sport administrator for the Seahawk men's and women's golf teams.
What do you remember about your first day working at UNCW?
My office was temporarily located in the office for the Vice Chancellor of Advancement. It was one of the biggest offices on campus and had a conference table and gorgeous desk. I was moved into a make-shift office under the stairs in Trask Coliseum a week later with no heat or air conditioning.
What is one of your favorite memories of working at UNCW?
The first CAA Men's Basketball Championship in Richmond in 2000
What does working at UNCW mean to you?
It's been a great experience to be working back on campus as an alum. The university has grown so much, and I take great pride in being a Seahawk!

I was a tennis student-athlete at UNCW.
