Seahawks Win Four Events At Trojan Relays

MOUNT OLIVE, North Carolina – The UNCW men's and women's track and field teams combined to capture first place in four events at the Trojan Relays hosted by Mount Olive on Friday and Saturday at the Ray McDonald, Sr., Track Complex.
 
A total of 17 teams competed in the two-day event. The Seahawks made their second appearance in three weeks at the facility after competing in the Trojan Challenge late last month.
 
In addition to Saturday's victories, the Seahawks came in second place in 14 events, posted nine personal best marks and registered 26 season bests.
 
"We figured some things out today and had some break through performances," said Head Coach Jeff Klaves. "Now we need to build on those performances. We just need to blend a couple of key concepts together."
 
Sophomore Elise Hall and graduate student Brianna Coon cracked the school's top-10 list in respective events. Hall recorded a mark of 11-5.75 in the Women's Pole Vault for eighth all-time, while Coon moved into 10th place in the Women's Shot Put with a throw of 39-1.75.
 
Junior Victoria Whimple (Castleton, N.Y.) and sophomore Josh Parks (Kannapolis, N.C.) each registered their fourth event win of the season. Whimple took first the Women's Triple Jump for the fourth time this year with a leap of 39-2.25, while Parks added the Men's 400 Meters (48.70) to his list of golds this spring.
 
The Seahawks travel to Columbia, S.C., next weekend to participate in the USC Open.
