WILMINGTON, North Carolina – UNCWSports.com will look at the members of the UNCW Department of Athletics staff with a weekly feature called "Seahawk Staff Spotlight." Each Tuesday, the website will profile a different member of the staff.

Our focus this week turns to Derek Brown, who serves as Associate Director of Facilities and Event Management for UNCW Athletics. Brown joined the staff in January of 2019 after working previously in event management at three other institutions.

What do you remember about your first day working at UNCW? 
It was 65 degrees outside in the middle of January.  

What is one of your favorite memories of working at UNCW?
Having a packed house for the men's basketball game against North Carolina during the 2019-20 season.

What does working at UNCW mean to you?
Helping to ensure the athletes who choose to come here are given the best opportunities and experiences possible.    

If you were an athlete, what jersey number would you want to wear and why?
#55 – I was a big Jason Williams fan growing up.
