Seahawk Staff Spotlight: Adam Fearing

WILMINGTON, North Carolina – UNCWSports.com will look at the members of the UNCW Department of Athletics staff with a weekly feature called "Seahawk Staff Spotlight." Each Tuesday, the website will profile a different member of the staff.

This week's edition profiles Adam Fearing, who serves as the Executive Director of the Seahawk Club. Fearing, a 2012 graduate of the University of Cincinnati, is in his seventh year as a member of the UNCW Athletics staff and was elevated to his current position on Apr. 10, 2018.

What do you remember about your first day working at UNCW?
How friendly everyone was, even though I was freaking out because we had a home basketball game in two days.

What is one of your favorite memories of working at UNCW?
On my first day of work, I began calling former student-athletes to set up meetings about giving back. I set up my first meeting that day and the alum was set to come to campus the next day and meet me in my office (which was being used for storage prior to my hire).

Jimmy Bass, our athletic director, came in earlier to help me clean my office and get it presentable before anyone else came into work. He was wearing a suit and tie, but he rolled up his sleeves and helped me move things around.

When I thanked him for his help, he said "No problem. I would never ask you to do something I wasn't willing to do myself." I knew I had made the right decision in becoming a Seahawk.

What does working at UNCW mean to you?
It means everything to me. I moved to Wilmington from Ohio and knew no one. UNCW and the Seahawk Club was all I knew and was the only reason I came here. Nearly seven years later, UNCW has invested in me, allowed me to grow and led me to finding new friends and a new home in Wilmington. I am proud to be a Seahawk every day.

If you were an athlete, what jersey number would you want to wear and why?
#38 – It was my number in college.

Did you play sports in college? If so, what sport and where did you play?
I played football at Cincinnati as a running back from 2010-12. I walked onto the team after trying out and eventually earned a scholarship for my senior year. I was fortunate enough to be on back-to-back Big East Conference championship teams (2011, 2012). My first game on the travel roster was at NC State and the last game of my career was against Duke at the Belk Bowl in Charlotte. I guess there is something about me and the state of North Carolina.
