Seahawk Staff Spotlight: Sandy King

WILMINGTON, North Carolina – UNCWSports.com will look at the members of the UNCW Department of Athletics staff with a weekly feature called "Seahawk Staff Spotlight." Each Tuesday, the website will profile a different member of the staff.

This week's inaugural feature showcases Sandy King, a 1993 and 1996 UNCW graduate who currently serves as the Associate Athletic Director for Compliance. King has been a member of the department for 24 years.

What do you remember about your first day working at UNCW?
I had already been a graduate student in the athletic department, so I was very familiar with the department. But, I just remember that I knew I was very blessed to have been given the opportunity and to do my best every day. I hope I have continued to do that for the department in my many roles.

What is one of your favorite memories of working at UNCW?
Wow, there are so many. Going to the NCAA Tournament for the very first time in men's basketball history was pretty special.

What does working at UNCW mean to you?
Working at my alma mater is pretty great and I do not take it for granted. I enjoy working with the staff and coaches and have met many life-long friends through attending and working at UNCW. Watching the student-athletes start as a freshman and grow and mature to graduation is also wonderful to see every four years. I think we all work here because we love it.

If you were an athlete, what jersey number would you want to wear and why?
1 – who doesn't want to wear number 1?

Did you play sports in college? If so, what sport and where did you play?
I was a four-year letter winner on the women's tennis team at UNCW. I went on and coached for three years after graduate school at UNCW.
