Seahawks, Pirates Renew Rivalry

WILMINGTON, North Carolina – Following a brief one-year hiatus, the UNCW-East Carolina rivalry in men's basketball is back on.

The Seahawks and Pirates will lock horns on Monday, Nov. 16, 2020, in Greenville after taking last year off in the competitive 66-game series.

uncwecu_graphicIt will be new UNCW head coach Takayo Siddle's first pairing against the Pirates since taking over the Seahawk program in late spring. He faced ECU three times during his earlier stint as an assistant coach at UNCW, going 2-1 against the Pirates.

The Seahawks and Pirates first squared off on Dec. 18, 1963, in Camp Lejeune, N.C., and played 29 straight years before the series stopped in 2002. The two clubs later battled on the hardwood six consecutive seasons before taking last year off.
