Khine Shines in Final Round of UCF Challenge

ORLANDO, Florida – Sophomore Phu Khine authored a 4-under-par 68 to finish in a tie for 12th place as UNCW completed play at the UCF Challenge at the Eagle Creek Golf Club on Tuesday afternoon.

Led by Khine, the Seahawks closed out the tournament with a 2-over-par 290, marking their best round of the tournament. No. 3 Kent State rallied to win the team title after shooting an impressive 13-under-par 275, finishing ahead of No. 13 Michigan State by six strokes.

Khine posted her second consecutive round of par or better after carding five birdies with just one bogey. She finished the tournament with a 76-69-68=213 score, which marked her second-best result of the season.

Junior Keri Kenkel fired a season-best 1-under-par 71 in the final round, which included three birdies, while senior Thao My Nguyen fashioned a 2-over-par 74 to close out the tournament in a tie for 62nd place.

"I am very proud of the team for how they played the final two rounds after getting off to a poor start," Coach Cindy Ho said. "The players learned some valuable lessons from day one, bounced back and finished strong. Phu had another excellent performance after shooting a 69 and a 68 during the final two rounds to finish in a tie for 12th place."

Up Next: The Seahawks continue their spring schedule by participating at the Reynolds Lake Oconee Intercollegiate on Feb. 21-23.
